Sterilization and Infection Prevention

An autoclave (sterilizer) is a device that sterilizes the jewelry and equipment necessary to perform piercings by eliminating germs and spores. No reputable studio should be in operation without this vital piece of equipment! Here at Amory, we use a rapid-cycle autoclave called a Statim 2000. We provide our clients with proof of proper sterilization by using a class 5 integrator with every sterilization cycle. Each strip has a white line between a red “fail” and green “pass” section, and once the sterilizer reaches the appropriate temperature and pressure, that line will turn grey. As long as that grey line exits the red “fail” section and enters the green “pass” section, all of the jewelry and equipment used to perform your piercings will have been sterilized properly.

ISO Compliant Biological Indicators

Spore tests (biological indicators) prove that an autoclave is working properly. We do these biological spore tests for our Statim 2000 autoclaves weekly. These test the autoclave’s ability to kill even the most dangerous and resistant germs and organisms, including Hepatitis. Each test is sent to a third-party laboratory (Mesa Labs), where they ensure both of our sterilizers are working accordingly. Any reputable piercer will be impressed, not annoyed, when customers are informed and interested enough to ask about spore test results!
